Kirov State Medical University began its journey on August 2, 1987, when it opened a branch of Perm State Medical University in Kirov. The first rector, V.A. Zhuravlev, and vice-rector, S.L. Sharigin, prepared the university in just 3 months, creating new departments in General Anatomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Children’s Diseases, Surgical Pathology, Internal Diseases, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
The university attracted high-quality teachers by offering housing and started with two faculties: General Medicine and Pediatrics. In 1993, the first batch graduated, and the university was officially recognized as Kirov State Medical Institute. Later, in 1998, it was upgraded to the status of an Academy, and in 2011, it received a termless license for educational activities.
The university is known for its active cooperation with hospitals and other healthcare institutions. It offers modern medical care through its clinic, which includes a diagnostic center and therapeutic station.
Kirov State Medical University also expanded its international presence by enrolling foreign students in 1995. Today, the Faculty of Foreign Students educates over 500 students from 39 countries.
